Mindset Moments

Sometimes you just feel… adrift. You’re not miserable, but you’re not thriving either. Perhaps your days seem to blur into each other and you can’t see the next step. In fact you just see more of the same...a bit groundhog day. You’re “fine”...but fine isn’t what you want. Just feeling a bit 'meh'.

Loss of direction often comes from running on autopilot. When you’re so busy reacting to life that you don’t step back to check if you’re heading somewhere that matters, you wake up feeling like your just drifting aimlessly.

Losing your sense of direction isn’t usually about laziness, it’s about overload, disconnection and sometimes success itself. You might have achieved the goals you once set and now feel adrift. Or maybe life threw you curveballs and the map you were following doesn’t make sense anymore. The pressure to have a clear, linear plan can actually keep you frozen, afraid to take a wrong turn.

Let's take a look at some ways to get your spark back:

Practical tips for getting unstuck

  • Zoom out before you zoom in:
Step back and look at the bigger picture of your life. Which values, themes, or passions have been consistent for you? This gives you a compass even if the exact route is unclear.

  • Stop/Keep/Start:
Think about your life right now, your work, your hobbies, your commitments:
    1. What would you love to stop doing? Why?
    2. What would you love to keep doing? Why?
    3. What would you love to start doing? Why?

Then think about what small actions you could take to start making some of these adjustments.

  • Borrow a lens:
Talk to someone who knows you well and ask what strengths, passions, or qualities they’ve seen in you over time. They’ll often point out the threads you’ve lost sight of.

Direction isn’t always about having a 10-year plan, sometimes it’s about exploring what matters most right now, picking the next stepping stone, taking action and trusting you’ll see the next one when you get there.
