Ever felt like your brain has 247 tabs open and each one needs a decision from you?
From “What’s for dinner?” to “Should I change jobs?”, every choice takes a toll.
That toll has a name: decision fatigue
It's the gradual draining of mental energy from too many decisions in a short space of time. The result? Slower thinking, more stress, and a tendency to avoid big choices altogether.
Here’s some simple tips on how to lighten the mental load and make better decisions with less effort.

Practical tips for overcoming decision fatigue:
Reduce everyday choices:
Every decision you don’t have to make frees up brainpower for the important ones. Set “defaults” for routine things like breakfasts, work outfits, or gym days. Then, batch similar decisions, like planning meals for the week in one go, or scheduling all meetings at the start of the month. By pre-deciding and grouping, you cut out repetitive decision-making that drains your mental battery.
Give yourself a 60-second deadline:
For small, low-stakes decisions, give yourself a minute or less. Often, your first instinct is the right one and quick calls keep you from wasting energy that could go into bigger, more meaningful choices.
Match your decisions to your energy peaks:
We all have natural “mental prime times”...maybe you’re sharper in the morning, or your brain comes alive after dinner. Notice when you feel most alert and protect that window for decisions and actions that matter most. If mornings are your superpower, schedule big thinking then; if you’re an evening owl, save your creative or strategic work for later.
The truth is, you will never be able to eliminate every decision in life and nor should you want to.
Some choices are worth the effort because they shape who you are and where you’re headed. But by protecting your mental energy for the ones that matter most, you give yourself the space to choose with intention rather than out of habit or exhaustion.
When you start treating your decision-making energy like a valuable currency, you stop spending it on the trivial and suddenly, the big calls feel lighter, clearer, and more possible.
“In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.” – Lewis Carroll
